A place to be HEARD … A place
to be HELPED
The Children’s Place is a non-profit, private agency
modeled after Children’s Advocacy Centers around the country. The purpose is to
provide a child-friendly, neutral facility where professionals from many
agencies involved in the evaluation, investigation, and treatment of child
abuse meet to coordinate and bring their services to the child and their
family.
Opened in March of 1999, The Children’s Place is funded by
federal, state, and local grants and private donations. The goals are to
prevent re-traumatization of the child, provide families with counseling and
other services during and after the investigation, and hold more offenders
accountable.
The Children’s Place Home-Based Family Assessment Services
are part of a second program called Differential Response (formerly known as The Dual Track Program) works closely with the Office of
Children’s Services (OCS). When a report is made, OCS may refer a family to the
Differential Response Program rather than open an investigation. The Dual Track
Program’s focus is to help families meet the health and safety needs of their
children. The program is voluntary.
