The Family Assessment
Worker
The Children's Place Family Assessment Workers are experienced in
human services. After they receive a referral from OCS, they contact a family
by phone or letter and set up a meeting time. They will talk with the parents
and children about the report to OCS and listen to their concerns. They will
also ask questions about the kinds of issues the family may be dealing
with.
Some of the services the Family Assessment Worker can help
connect the families with include:
- Medical
insurance for pregnant women and children
- Parenting
classes
- Childcare
assistance
- Financial
and Housing Assistance
- Counseling
- Assessment
for Childhood Development
Alaskan families experience times of stress for a variety of
reasons:
- Unemployment
- Isolation
- Lack
of medical insurance
- Unaffordable
housing
- Family
problems
- Depression
- Trouble
dealing with teenagers
- Substance
abuse
The Children's Place Family Assessment Worker meets with families
in their homes in order to assist them in identifying areas of need and to
connect them with the agencies that can help meet those needs.
Parents whose own personal and safety needs are met are better
able to meet the health and safety needs of their children.
REMEMBER: Accepting our service
is voluntary. Differential Response may be used as an alternative to an OCS investigation. |
